Young Professionals Volunteer Parade Marshal - 2024 Salute to Veterans Parade

Saturday, November 9, 2024 (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Join the Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals as we proudly support the Carolinas Freedom Foundation's 2024 Salute to Veterans Parade! With over 2,000 participants, this impactful event honors those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The parade will showcase high school bands, pipe, drum, and bugle corps, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), Scout troops, active military and first-responder units, motorcycles and classic vehicles, K9 service and equine therapy groups, corporate veteran employees, veteran organizations, and more.

Come out and volunteer with the Charlotte Area Chamber to assist us in paying tribute to our nation’s heroes and enjoying the festivities while making a difference.

Under the direction and guidance of the Salute to Veterans Parade Chair and Captains, parade marshals will ensure the effective pacing of the parade and support the safety of participants and spectators.

Parade Marshal Tasks and Requirements
Support Event Safety:

  1. Walk with and monitor participants/spectators to ensure parade rules are being followed.
  2. Ensure that participants keep up a steady pace with the flow of the parade.
  3. Communicate on-demand police instructions (i.e. group stops and starts) en route until participants fully exit the parade route.
  • Minimum Age of 21:   Parade Marshals need to be able to confront situations that may require the involvement of a mature adult.
  • Requires Standing/Walking ~1.5 miles:   The parade route is one mile between the staging area of N Tryon/11th-9th St, walking South on Tryon St to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd; plus the distance for your return to the volunteer parking area. In addition, the parade set-up and staging require extended periods of standing.
  • Rain or Shine Event:   Volunteers should wear weather-appropriate clothes; plastic ponchos will be available in case of rain.
  • No Spectators:   The Salute to Veterans Parade engages more than 2000 parade participants in a limited staging area; therefore friends/family members not registered to volunteer are asked to position themselves for viewing the parade via the sidewalk between North Tryon at 9th St and South Tryon at MLKjr Blvd.

All Parade Marshals should dress for temperature changes due to
1. Climate - (typical cold start, warms with the sun, can be windy)
2. Exercise - (walking the route can be warm and windy). Parade-day reporting time is ~9:30 AM and responsibilities last until ~12:30 PM depending on your contingent's place in the parade line-up.
