Join us for coffee and a hot buffet breakfast with the Chamber at Topgolf in University City! Networking and a special update from University City Partners.
The mission of University City Partners is to envision and implement strategies and actions to drive University City’s long-term economic vitality as a center for employment, living, education, commerce, and entertainment.
Their vision is for Charlotte’s University City to be a vibrant place that is urban in scale and design. It will be energized by transit and will be a popular and accessible destination offering diverse and unique choices for living, shopping, working, learning and enjoying leisure time. It will become a premier employment center in the region with sophisticated infrastructure and attractive amenities.
The organization concentrates resources in these three key areas: planning and development, economic development and marketing and communications. As a catalyst, facilitator and thought leader, University City Partners promotes public/private partnerships to create and sustain the economic vitality of University City.

Janet Godfrey, Director Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships, University City Partners
Janet is a graduate of Appalachian State University. She sits on the boards of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Piedmont and Western N.C., Ballantyne Ball and the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation. Janet joined University City Partners from Novant Health and has held positions at the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and The Charlotte Observer. Janet oversees essential short and long-term programs aligned with the University City Partners vision plan, building engagement and organizing events that foster community and growth.
Drew Gaertner, Economic Development & Planning Senior Manager, University City Partners
As a former member of the Childress Klein Student Managed Real Estate Investment Fund, Drew refined his skills in investment analysis and management. Formerly employed as the Director of Land Planning for a private firm, Drew initiated efforts to optimize processes and train new team members, showcasing strong leadership abilities.
With a wealth of experience in urban planning and development, including positions at the City of Wilmington and the City of Salisbury, Drew possesses a deep understanding of zoning regulations and development procedures, alongside proficiency in GIS and AutoCAD.
Drew holds a Master of Science in Real Estate from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and graduated with a double major in Applied Geography and International Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
