Services Offered To Patients

Cosmetic Bonding

Is a chipped or slightly misaligned tooth keeping you from smiling confidently? Dr. Schramm of Schramm Dentistry can provide the cosmetic care you need in just one appointment with cosmetic bonding. With this simple and affordable service, Dr. Schramm will apply a putty-like substance called composite resin to the tooth that needs care. From there, the resin can be shaded and shaped until it matches your surrounding teeth. When cared for properly with brushing and flossing, you can expect your results to last for between 5 to 10 years.

Do you have a tooth that needs cosmetic care, but you want to avoid the cost and time of porcelain veneers? Let Dr. Schramm talk to you about cosmetic bonding. This simple service can produce quality results you’ll be eager to share with those closest to you.

Cosmetic Dentistry

According to research conducted at the University of Illinois, people who generally feel happy and smile more tend to live almost ten years longer. When you feel confident about your teeth and gums, you’re more likely to be outgoing and meet new people, building the foundations for long-lasting friendships and partnerships. Your sense of self-esteem is heightened, and you never have to worry about hiding your mouth when you smile or laugh in social situations. Renew your smile and your life with Dr. Schramm’s cosmetic dentistry services in Charlotte, NC!

Cosmetic Bonding for Charlotte, NC and Beyond

Cosmetic bonding can rectify several types of common dental problems, including cracked and discolored teeth, slight misalignments, and unsightly gaps. Also called dental bonding, cosmetic bonding involves the use of tooth-colored composite resin to correct minor cosmetic issues. The result is a seamless appearance that looks and feels completely natural.

If your teeth are crooked, stained, chipped, or oddly spaced, Dr. Schramm can offer you an all-in-one solution that gives you a remarkably improved appearance in a way that still looks and feels natural: porcelain veneers. Also called dental veneers, porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of durable, stain-resistant porcelain that are applied to your prepared natural teeth. Their shape, color, and size are customized precisely to meet your desires and needs, giving you a beautiful smile in as little as two visits to our Charlotte, NC office, just north of Ballantyne.

Invisalign Helps Charlotte Patients Achieve Straighter, More Beautiful Smiles

Cosmetic dentistry services at Schramm Dentistry near Ballantyne, in South Charlotte, can help give you the beautiful, straight smile you’ve always wanted. If you have misaligned or gapped teeth, but the idea of enduring years wearing traditional metal braces is unappealing, Invisalign may be the right solution for you. The Invisalign orthodontic system utilizes clear, customized aligner trays that gradually shift your teeth into the correct position.

Crown & Bridge

Some of the most common ways for a patient to lose a tooth include accident, injury, or gum disease. When that happens, self-esteem can become damaged. What’s more, a missing tooth can also limit your smile’s functionality and cause issues with your oral health down the road. You don’t have to live with a missing tooth, though. Schramm Dentistry in Charlotte has a special restorative and cosmetic service that can help. With a crown and bridge—or a fixed bridge, as it’s sometimes called—Dr. Schramm can fill the gap in your smile to help you reclaim your confidence and preserve your oral health.

Improved Appearance and Functionality

A crown and bridge is made up of a prosthetic tooth plus one dental crown on either side. The crowns are attached to existing healthy teeth while the prosthetic tooth in the middle fills the gap in your smile. Sometimes bridges that uses dental implants may be used, or even a partial denture. However, for many patients who are missing just one tooth, a traditional crown and bridge may be enough.

Personalized Care to Repair Your Smile

The process of restoring your smile will begin with a consultation with Dr. Schramm at his Charlotte dental office. With an exam, we can determine what your needs are, then discuss your options and explain your treatment. There will also be some prep work involved to get your teeth ready for your restoration. Replacing a tooth with a crown and bridge typically takes at least two to three appointments. When Dr. Schramm finally has your crown and bridge in place, you can look forward to having a complete smile that looks great and help you enjoy better functionality and oral health.

Dental Implants

Dr. Schramm understands how missing teeth can take away your confident smile. But it can also affect the strength, density, and stability of your jawbone. When you lose your teeth and their supporting roots, the surrounding jaw bone no longer has a purpose and begins to disintegrate. If this process is allowed to continue, your jaw will weaken and destroy your youthful facial structure.

It may not always be possible to keep your natural teeth, because of dental injury, periodontitis, severe tooth decay, or root canal infections. However, dental implants can restore and replace your natural teeth and roots. These tiny titanium posts are fully biocompatible. Once placed, your jaw bone will fuse around the implant, to fully maintain your strong and healthy bone structure.

The dental implant can be capped by a porcelain crown or a full or partial denture, to achieve the look and feel of your natural teeth. Dental implants can be used to anchor just one tooth, or a complete upper or lower set of teeth. Dental implants completely eliminate the possibility of embarrassment or bone recession from missing teeth, loose fitting dentures, or worn down dental bridges.

Dental implants are fast becoming the most popular solution for replacing missing teeth. You can smile confidently once again after having your dental implants fully placed and restored at Schramm Dentistry.

Dentures & Partials

What would you do with a complete smile? Would you smile more? Would you enjoy a more balanced and nutritious diet? With a partial or full denture from Schramm Dentistry, both are possible. Thanks to advances in dental materials and technology, you can count on your results looking natural. You can also look forward to improvements in functionality that make eating and speaking even easier. And with traditional and dental implant denture options, we can meet an even wider spectrum of needs. At Schramm Dentistry, we want to be your Charlotte dentures headquarters.

Different Dentures for Different Needs

Some patients have several missing teeth they need to replace while others have a full row to restore. With partial and full dentures, we can meet both needs. Partial dentures are made up of multiple teeth spread across a special base that resembles gum tissue. Unlike bridges, which are permanently fixed in place, partial dentures are often held in place with clips or brackets. A full denture also features a gum-colored base but replaces a whole row of teeth and uses suction or an adhesive to stay in place.

The number of teeth being replaced is just one issue when it comes to dentures, though. Another is the way your dentures are held in place. Traditional dentures use the methods mentioned above, while implant-supported dentures use titanium posts to provide a strong, supportive smile that resembles the structure of teeth. That’s because of how implant posts interact with the jaw. Because titanium is a biocompatible metal, it will bond with the jaw over time, performing the same function that your tooth roots once did before they were lost. What’s more, besides anchoring your dentures in place, your implants will also help you grow new bone tissue, keeping your jaw strong as you age.

Personalized Care for Charlotte and Beyond

To help you choose the denture that’s right for you, Dr. Schramm will complete a thorough oral exam at his Charlotte dental office. Dental implants aren’t right for every patient, but for many they are. With an exam and consultation, Dr. Schramm can determine what your needs are and help you put together a plan that will help you improve the appearance and functionality of your smile.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool for Dr. Schramm to detect damage and disease during your routine examination. These X-rays are also needed to complete certain restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. For new patients, Dr. Schramm's x-rays are used to determine the present status of your oral health and develop a baseline to help identify any changes that may occur in the future. Instead of traditional film x-rays, Schramm Dentistry utilizes digital X-rays, the high-tech replacement that requires significantly less radiation exposure (up to 90% less radiation). Digital x-ray tools and techniques are designed to limit your radiation exposure. Every precaution is taken to ensure that your radiation exposure is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA principle). Digital x-rays also shorten your dental appointment time, make it easier to transfer your dental records, and allow visual adjustments to make cavity and decay detection faster. With new digital x-ray technology, you can have peace of mind knowing that your dental treatment will be as safe and efficient as possible.

Gum Disease Treatment for Families in Ballantyne, Matthews, Charlotte and More

Gum disease is a common oral health condition that can lead to a variety of potentially debilitating complications if poorly managed or left untreated. Though approximately 80 percent of Americans suffer from some level of periodontal disease, most of them don’t even know it. This serious condition is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults in our country and is a contributing factor to illnesses like coronary artery disease and arthritis. Advanced gum disease has even been associated with heart attack, stroke, dementia, pregnancy complications, diabetes and more. This is because uncontrolled bacteria from the mouth can freely travel throughout the bloodstream, wreaking havoc on other tissues over time.

Fortunately, Dr. Schramm and his team offer comprehensive periodontal therapy to combat the ill effects of this disease, reducing your risk of developing these and other severe complications. If your gums are swollen or discolored or tend to bleed when you brush your teeth, contact Dr. Schramm and make an appointment for periodontal therapy today.

Invisalign®

What’s the first thing you notice about someone else’s smile? If you said, “whether or not their teeth are straight,” then chances are that’s the exact characteristic you want for your own smile. At the cosmetic dentistry practice of Dr. Arthur Schramm—the cosmetic dentist for Charlotte, NC—we can give you a new, straight smile in a year or less! And you won’t have to worry about the time, trouble, or appearance of traditional braces, because you may qualify for the Invisalign clear braces system.

Invisalign clear braces are a series of customized aligners that cosmetically straighten your misaligned teeth. Dr. Schramm works closely with the Invisalign lab in order to develop a treatment plan designed especially for you. With x-rays, photographs and impressions that we take in our office, Invisalign creates a 3D virtual model of your teeth. Dr. Schramm in turn uses this model to develop the plan that will not only be the blueprint that Invisalign uses to fabricate your aligners, but this plan will also show you the end results before treatment even begins.

Your aligners come in a series of sets—one for your upper arch and one for the lower. Every two weeks, you simply exchange your current set of aligners for the next in the set. As you progress from set to set, you will actually begin to see your smile go from crooked to straight. The aligners gently shift your teeth into optimal position, and treatment can take as few as 12 months to completely correct your smile.

Invisalign clear braces are comfortable, barely noticeable, removable, and easy to clean. And because they are removable, you can eat all of the foods you enjoy most. Go ahead and have popcorn at the movies or bite into delicious corn-on-the-cob at a picnic. You don’t have to worry about trapping food particles or breaking a bracket, which can and does happen with traditional metal braces. In addition, you’ll be able to maintain your regular hygiene routine at home. Brushing and flossing are a pleasure with removable Invisalign clear braces.

Finally, Invisalign clear braces don’t require adjusting, so you’ll spend less time in the dental chair. In fact, you’ll only have to come in to Dr. Schramm’s office every six to eight weeks, so that we can check your progress.

At the general, cosmetic, and restorative dental practice of Dr. Arthur Schramm, we offer a clearly better choice for adults and teens who want straighter teeth. Come in today for an assessment and get started on your Invisalign clear braces treatment with the dentist Charlotte, NC, knows is best.

Oral Cancer Screening

There are over 43,000 new cases of oral cancer each year in the U. S. alone. Many these cases will have negative outcomes because oral cancer is usually found in the advanced stages; since many patients never get the periodic oral cancer screenings they need. As a routine part of every dental examination, oral cancer screenings from Dr. Schramm can save your life. During your oral cancer screening, Dr. Schramm will check for abnormalities in and around your mouth, face, and neck. For patients with oral cancer found in the early stages of development, there’s a much better chance of remission. Men are twice as likely as women to develop oral cancer but the risk for development increases for everyone with age. To reduce your risk of developing oral cancer; avoid tobacco products, alcohol, excessive sun exposure, and contracting the Human Papillomavirus.

Common Oral Cancer Warning Signs

  • A mouth sore that doesn't heal after two weeks
  • A lump or thickening in the lining of your mouth
  • A white or red patch inside the mouth
  • Loose or shifting teeth
  • Poorly fitting dentures

Porcelain Veneers

At Schramm Dentistry, we know that your smile is important—socially, professionally, and personally. Smiling is a vital tool to express confidence, beauty, and health to everyone you meet—whether its friends for a night out, or co-workers for a day-long meetings.

If you have a less-than-perfect smile, one damaged by discoloration, fractures or gaps, then Dr. Schramm has the perfect solution: Porcelain veneers.

Do you have any of the following dental problems?

  • Stained or yellowed enamel
  • Odd spaces between teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

Porcelain veneers are an excellent cosmetic dentistry option, especially if you need multiple cosmetic corrections. Porcelain veneers can usually be applied in only two dental visits. Veneers are wafer thin shells that are custom-crafted in a dental lab. Once bonded to your natural teeth, porcelain veneers are durable, stain-resistant, and with consistent, proper care, they can last a lifetime.

Restorative Dentistry

With our many restorative dentistry options, Dr. Schramm can return health, function and beauty to your teeth. We can repair the smiles of you and your family with one or more of the following restorative dentistry services: crown and filling, full-mouth reconstruction, Invisalign clear braces, root canals, crown and bridges, dentures and partials, dental implants, and extractions.

Crown and Bridge

An affordable restorative dentistry solution for fixing embarrassing smile gaps is a crown and bridge. A crown and bridge is a fixed device that becomes a permanent part of your smile. The bridge contains porcelain replacement teeth, which are bonded via crowns to the teeth on either side of the gap. With a crown and bridge, you’ll be able to show off your wholesome smile!

Dentures and Partials

Periodontal disease, severe tooth decay, dental trauma, and extractions are all reasons why people lose their teeth. If you’re missing most or all of your teeth, you might have trouble with speaking or eating. At Schramm Dentistry, we can custom-make full or partial dentures that will fit comfortably and give you a great new smile.

Root Canal Therapy

Dental decay may be limited to a tooth, but sometimes, the decay can extend to the tooth’s nerves. In this scenario, Dr. Schramm may utilize root canal therapy. This restorative dentistry procedure can relieve the discomfort associated with the toothache.

Root Canals

You may not think about the importance of your teeth until you are having a problem with them. One of the most common causes of tooth pain is a root canal infection. If you think you may be suffering from this, then the best place for root canal treatment in Charlotte, NC is at Schramm Dentistry. We have served the community for over two decades, providing outstanding care in a comfortable environment.

The “root canal” is terminology often used to describe a natural cavity in the middle of the tooth, within which lies the nerves of the tooth. While the nerve of a tooth does not help in the function of the tooth, it does help sense if there are any problems. Some many different signs or symptoms can be present if you are suffering from a root canal infection. They include:

  • Pain occurring when you are chewing food or simply applying pressure to an area
  • Swelling and tenderness in the gums near the toothache, often combined with a recurring pimple on the gums
  • Extra sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures in the affected area, even after the hot or cold has been removed
  • Discoloration or darkening of the affected tooth

However, it is important to note that a root canal infection could be present even if you are not experiencing these symptoms. This is one reason why regular dental checkups and care is important for the health of your teeth – it can help to take care of little problems before they become big problems.

Schramm Dentistry can help relieve toothaches caused by root canal infection with effective root canal therapy. In a root canal infection, a tooth’s nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, allowing bacteria to multiply. The bacteria can cause an infection or abscessed tooth, which can spread infection past the ends of the roots of the teeth. This is why the tooth pulp that has been infected needs to be removed – if not, then the swelling and infection can spread to other areas of the face, neck, or head.

During a root canal procedure, the diseased pulp and nerve are removed, with the inside of the tooth then being cleaned and sealed by Dr. Schramm. After the root canal is cleaned and sealed, then it is filled with gutta-percha, which is a sealer paste. After the gutta-percha has been placed, a filling is used to fill the exterior access hole.

In most cases, some tooth restoration such as a porcelain crown may need to be used to protect the tooth, prevent it from breaking, and restore it to full function. Dr. Schramm discusses with each patient what will work best for their situation.

If you are experiencing tooth pain or simply need to come in for a dental checkup in Charlotte, request an appointment today online or by giving us a call at 704-542-7170. Don’t let a toothache or root canal infection take over your life but come to Schramm Dentistry for quality root canal treatment in Charlotte, NC. We look forward to meeting you!

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder where your breathing is periodically obstructed as you sleep by collapsing tissues in the back of your throat. When you stop breathing repeatedly during the night, your brain and the rest of your body may not get enough oxygen. Your untreated sleep apnea can then lead to other serious medical conditions like hypertension, stroke, and heart failure. Men are more likely to have sleep apnea, but the risk for developing sleep apnea is also increased for obese patients and patients over 40.

What Are The Most Common Sleep Apnea Symptoms?

  • Loud snoring
  • Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
  • Waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
  • Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
  • Morning headaches
  • Forgetfulness, mood changes, and depression
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Insomnia

Sleep Apnea Treatment from Dr. Schramm

Dr. Schramm can immediately alleviate your sleep apnea symptoms with a custom designed and minimally invasive dental appliance. These appliances can be worn at night while you sleep to keep your throat tissue from collapsing and keep your airway open. For the restful night’s sleep you deserve, and to protect your good health, make an appointment for a custom dental appliance from Schramm Dentistry today.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

In the not-so-distant past, teeth were filled with a mixture of different metals (amalgam). Today you can get more natural-looking and metal-free tooth-colored fillings. Tooth-colored fillings can be used on both the front and back teeth and are a good choice for patients who prefer fillings that look like normal teeth. Dr. Schramm uses tooth-like composite resins and porcelains to provide fillings that are both safe and predictable. Tooth-colored fillings look and feel just like your natural tooth enamel. The shade and color of the composite filling material can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. The composite fillings can chemically bond to your tooth structure, to fill in cavities or repair chipped, broken, or worn-down teeth. Tooth-colored fillings also require less tooth structure to be removed than traditional amalgam fillings. If you’re ready to remake your smile, Dr. Schramm can easily remove and restore your old metal fillings with new, more esthetically pleasing tooth-colored fillings.

Teeth Whitening

Did you know that babies are born with the ability to smile? It’s not a learned trait, but an inherent one, and a gift that people give each other every day. A smile is universal—it offers greeting, expression of happiness, and kindness. People everywhere in the world recognize a smile more than any other facial expression.

There are plenty of reasons for having discolored teeth:

  • Taking certain antibiotics or antihistamines
  • Aging
  • Drinking cola, tea, wine, or coffee
  • Eating a lot of dark-colored foods such as blueberries or chocolate
  • Sustaining dental injuries
